MAS is multi-platform compatible. This is a set of Perl scripts which interface with MySQL to provide streaming MP3's over the net. The package includes just about everything you'll need, such as sql scripts, shell scripts, Perl cgi and shell scripts, etc. Right now I'm not going to take the time to list everything, as it's pretty much all in the README.

Mediawrap "wraps" Real Audio and MP3 media files, so you do not have to create special ".ram" files to allow HTTP streaming. When a browser connects to your site, it gets the ".ram"-file with the URL in it, when RealPlayer connects to your site, it gets the real file. This is all done transparently.

If you offer media files on your site, such as RealMedia (Audio/Video) or mp3-files, you will probably have noticed that you have to create .ram-files or something similar. These .ram-files are kind of a "wrapper" for the real file. They are downloaded by the browser and given over to the player who then starts downloading and playing the real file.

This is a workaround for those confusing apache mime-type file headers for mp3 files, where a standardized mime type has not yet been accepted. This allows you to configure the mime-type header that you would like to send to the users browser to play mp3 files from url links. This script is a quick fix and not a substitute for proper apache configuration. However, it is suitable to deal with other apache mime-type difficulties as well, by changing the mime-types in the script.

Mimeslapper.cgi is a workaround for the confusing apache mime-type file headers, in the case of mp3 files, where a "standardized" mime type has not yet been widely accepted. Mimeslapper.cgi allows you to configure via a hard variable, or via a specialized url tag, which mime-type header you'd like to send to the users browser, in order to successfully play mp3 files from url links. This is also a good workaround for servers which have no mime-type headers set for mp3 files, because of this lack of standard, as well as for those webmasters who may need additional mime-type headers sent with select mp3 files. This script is intended to be a quick fix, and not to become a substitute for proper apache configuration.
